GraffitiCMS is now Open Source
Graffiti makes publishing simple and easy, that’s what the website says. Well, I can’t argue with that. I’ve been using Graffiti since its beta time and it is one of my favorite CMS to date. It is very easy to use even for people with no programming background. For developers and designers, Graffiti is the place to play as it easy to theme and extend.
But the story is not always happy, due to some problems forced Telligent (the company who created Graffiti) to business strategy and graffiti was no longer part of their strategy. This is a serious problem for those who already loved with this wonderful product because it means that there won’t be any support for graffiti anymore. Many of them asked Telligent to make graffiti an Open Source Software (OSS).
The wait has finally paid off, on Nov 24th Scott Watermasysk one of Telligent VP informally announced on twitter that they will release GraffitiCMS as OSS on Dec 11th.
Some skeptic peoples said that this won’t happen as they already saw a lot of promise regarding graffiti futures (including version 2.0, etc) but never happened. But this time they have to believe it, as promised they make it OSS and announce it on their team blog. Codeplex has been chosen as the place to put the source code (you can find the direct link here).
Now that the software finally Open Source, we will look at how much improvements we can see in the near future. Some hardcore fans already list their wish here and we hope the best for the new GraffitiCMS.
